covers, which is pretty low on the motor. Doing some "spirited" driving, oil can slosh around and the PCV's will dump it into the intake manifold. Re-routing them to pickup from the intake valve covers (high point on the engine) helps prevent this from happening. I say short of head gasket, because if the compression / leakdown test is good, then why bother? However, everyother seal / gasket is a good idea to replace, because chances are, it never was maintained all that well in Japan. Plus it's a lot easier to do these tasks with the engine out on the stand.
